"Haves" and "Have nots"
No matter what your business, you will have customers. More importantly you will have people who are potential customers. These people will want to know about you and what you do. Potential customers will use any source of information they can get to help them decide who to do business with. We have had businesses come to us to get websites designed because they have discovered that a competitor who
did have a website got the business. One chap overhead a competitor boasting that people using Yellow Pages chose his business because he had a website and none of his competitors did. These new customers looked at the website and decided on the basis of what they saw. Those without websites were instant losers.
What they see is what they expect
To a potential customer, perception is everything. They judge on the basis of what they see. If you have no website then you will be classed as "out of date" or "not serious". You might even just be ignored as "irrelevant". If you do have a website then make sure you have examples of what you do on it. Obvious things to include are:
- A short simple statement about WHAT you do.
- A portfolio of work or list of past projects
- Testimonials - potential customers LOVE them.
- Your contact details
Your website may be only one page long, but it may just stop you from losing business. Compared to other ways of marketing yourself, a website can be remarkably cost effective, but that's another story......
