Improve your content - 'Content is King'The big thing on web pages used to be keywords. Not any more. Keywords were so abused by those using them that the search engines have stopped using them to tell what a web page is about.
Content is king
If you want to get your web page ranked better by Google then have content on it that can be indexed. The better the content, the higher your ratings will become and the closer you will get to that coveted "top ten" position.
Measure your successIt may seem obvious to say this, but one of the things you must be able to do is to measure the effectiveness of any changes you make to your content. You could get a worse rating than you started with. For a given set of keywords you must be able to determine how your page performs. At GemBiz we have an automated program to do this that can provide reports on how you are positioned and over time the changes to the content can be measured to ensure that your page goes UP the rankings and not DOWN!
Structural changes may be needed
Some times it is necessary to make structural changes to the format of the web page or the website. This is not always the case but it can make a difference.
Imagine that you are looking at a page of text with no headings, no paragraphs and no punctuation. Wouldn't it be easier to read if it was spaced out, broken into paragraphs, and so on? Web page restructuring is the process of ensuring that the search engine can easily read the page - it does not see what you see. Colours, pictures, spacing for human eyes mean nothing to Google, Yahoo and MSN.
What about "Flash" based websites?
Search engines read text - Flash is a graphic based format.
The upshot is that content in Flash based websites is not indexed by search engines. They may look nice, they may have a high visual impact, but content in Flash is content lost to Google. Maybe this will change in the future, but for now that is the way things are.
